Aerospace Anti-Corrosion Spray for Coilovers, Metal and Electrics
ACF-50 is the anti-corrosion formula made by Lear Chemical Research for the aviation industry, and it has become the standard treatment for stopping rust on coilovers, suspension components and anything else exposed to a British winter. This is the 946ml (1 US quart) bottle, supplied with a separate trigger spray bottle to decant into for application.
It works as an ultra-thin fluid film rather than a thick coating. Sprayed onto clean metal it creeps into threads, seams and joints, displaces moisture and road salt, and chemically stops the corrosion cells that are already there. The film then stays active on the surface and keeps new corrosion from starting. Lear quote protection of up to 24 months from one application, although on a car driven through salted winter roads you should expect to reapply sooner. It contains no silicone, PTFE, wax or water, so it does not go sticky or build up, and it meets the requirements of MIL-PRF-81309 Type II and III.
For coilover owners the routine is simple: treat the damper bodies, threaded collars, spring seats and lower mounts before winter, then fit a set of Tegiwa coilover socks over the top to keep the grit off.

Key Features
- Stops existing corrosion cells and prevents new ones forming
- Creeps into threads, seams and lap joints where water collects
- Displaces moisture and neutralises road salt
- Safe on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, paint, chrome, plastics and most rubber
- Safe on electrical connectors and electronic components
- Thin film that does not go sticky or attract a thick layer of dirt
- Also frees seized nuts, bolts and adjuster collars
- Developed for aircraft and used by motorsport teams and workshops
What's in the Box?
- 1 x ACF-50 Anti-Corrosion Formula, 946ml bottle
- 1 x trigger spray applicator bottle, empty, for decanting
Suitable For
- Coilover damper bodies, threaded collars, locking rings and spring seats
- Suspension arms, subframes, bolts and brackets
- Electrical connectors, earth points, battery terminals and sensor plugs
- Engine bays, underbody, exhaust hangers and fasteners
- Motorcycles, trailers, tools and garage equipment
Not suitable for: brake discs, pads and any other friction surface, or the inside of fuel systems. Do not apply to surfaces you intend to paint, as paint will not adhere over it.
How to Apply
Shake the bottle well, decant some into the trigger spray and apply a thin, even coat to clean, dry surfaces. Spray it on or wipe it on with a cloth, working it into threads and joints, then wipe away any runs or excess. Mask off the brake discs and calipers before spraying near the suspension, and leave the car for a short while for the film to spread before driving. Reapply when water stops beading on the treated surface. If it gets onto the engine or exhaust it will smoke briefly on the first start, which is normal.
Is ACF-50 safe to use on electrics?
Yes. It is approved for electrical systems and electronic components and can be sprayed directly into connectors and switches to displace moisture.
Can I spray it near the brakes?
Keep it well away from discs, pads and drums. Cover the brakes before treating the coilovers and suspension, and clean any overspray off with brake cleaner.
How long does it last?
Lear quote up to 24 months of protection from a single application. On a daily driver that sees salted roads and regular washing, check the treated areas through the winter and reapply once water no longer beads on the surface.
Will it wash off?
ACF-50 is not water soluble, so it survives normal washing and rain. A pressure washer or a strong degreaser aimed directly at the treated area can strip it, so reapply after a deep clean.
Does it remove rust that is already there?
It gets into existing corrosion and stops it spreading, but it does not dissolve heavy rust. Clean loose rust off with a wire brush first, then apply ACF-50 to the bare metal.
Can I paint over it?
No. The film prevents paint from adhering, so paint or powder coat first and apply ACF-50 afterwards.
Why is the trigger spray a separate bottle?
The 946ml bottle is a bulk container. Decant a small amount into the supplied trigger spray so it is easier to handle, and the main bottle stays sealed between uses.
