Description

TEIN Super Racing Coilovers for Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX CT9A (2005-2006) – Separate Bump and Rebound, Motorsport Spec

TEIN Super Racing is a motorsport-derived coilover kit for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX CT9A, giving you adjustable ride height and damping to set the car up properly for track days and competition. TEIN recommends 14 kgf/mm front and 12 kgf/mm rear spring rates for this application.

Super Racing is TEIN's top motorsport coilover, developed for time attack and circuit racing. Compression and rebound each have their own 16-step adjuster (256 combinations), strut types use inverted dampers for side stiffness, and wishbone types use lightweight aluminium bodies, some with remote reservoirs. Height is set by full-length adjustment through a moving lower bracket, independently of spring preload.

The damper bodies get TEIN's two-layer powder coat, and the height-adjustment threads are protected by TEIN's low-friction ZTP coating, which resists rust and stone chips and helps stop the spring seats seizing.

Specifications

  • Damper type: Mono-tube (inverted on strut types)
  • Height adjustment: Full-length (case-length) adjustable
  • Damping adjustment: 16 compression x 16 rebound, adjusted separately
  • Spring rate, front: 14 kgf/mm
  • Spring rate, rear: 12 kgf/mm
  • Ride height as supplied, front: approx. 55 mm lower than standard
  • Ride height as supplied, rear: approx. 35 mm lower than standard
  • TEIN recommended height range, front: 45 to 65 mm below standard
  • TEIN recommended height range, rear: 25 to 45 mm below standard
  • EDFC motor kit: EDK05-12120 (sold separately)
  • Top mounts: Pillow-ball top mounts with camber (and caster on strut types)
  • Part number: DSR84-81LS1

Spring rates and ride heights are TEIN's application data. Heights are measured against the car's standard ride height and are a guide only: the result on your car depends on its condition, wheels and tyres, and load. Ride height drop figures are TEIN's recommendation for circuit use and may not meet road vehicle regulations.

Key Features

Fitment

  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX CT9A (Mar 2005 to Dec 2006), GSR, RS, GT, 2.0L AWD

TEIN also lists this kit (DSR84-81LS1) for: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII CT9A (2001-2003); Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII CT9A (2003-2004); Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR CT9A (2004-2005).

Not suitable for: other Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX generations, body styles or drivetrains not listed above, as they use different TEIN part numbers. If your exact model isn't listed, contact us with your registration before ordering.

Installation

The kit replaces the complete original strut and damper assemblies. Set the ride height on the bench by screwing the damper body in or out of its lower bracket, then fine-tune on the car. TEIN pre-tightens the lower bracket lock rings only, so they must be fully tightened at fitting and checked regularly. Never shorten the body beyond TEIN's stated range. Tighten the top nut with a torque wrench while holding the piston rod on its flats; over-tightening can damage the adjuster. Leave suspension arm bolts loose until the car is back on its wheels, then torque them at normal ride height so the bushes aren't preloaded. TEIN advises lowering by no more than 30-40 mm to start with, keeping the front level with or 5-10 mm lower than the rear. Let the springs settle for a few days, recheck the height and lock rings, then have a full four-wheel alignment done. Fitting needs spring compressors (where strut assemblies are rebuilt), a torque wrench and a good understanding of the car's suspension. We recommend professional fitting.

Upgrade Further

Lowering changes the anti-roll bar geometry. TEIN's adjustable drop links let you correct it: Tein Rear Adjustable Drop Links Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII CT9A, Tein Rear Adjustable Drop Links Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII CT9A. Add a TEIN EDFC5 controller with motor kit EDK05-12120 to adjust damping from the driver's seat. Contact us for pricing.

Will this kit fit my Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX CT9A?

This kit (TEIN part DSR84-81LS1) is listed for the models in the Fitment section above. Check your chassis code, year and trim against that list, along with any notes under it. If you're unsure, send us your registration or VIN before ordering and we'll confirm.

How low will my Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX CT9A go?

As supplied, TEIN's data puts the car approx. 55 mm lower than standard at the front and approx. 35 mm lower than standard at the rear. TEIN recommends staying within 45 to 65 mm below standard at the front and 25 to 45 mm below standard at the rear. Wheels, tyres and the car's condition all affect the final height.

How is the damping adjusted?

Compression and rebound each have their own 16-step adjuster, giving 256 combinations. Start from TEIN's recommended settings in the instructions and change one adjuster a few clicks at a time.

Does it work with TEIN EDFC?

Yes. You'll need TEIN's EDFC5 controller kit plus motor kit EDK05-12120 for this car, both sold separately. EDFC lets you change damping from inside the car.

Are top mounts included?

Yes. Pillow-ball top mounts are included. They give sharper steering feel and camber adjustment, but can transmit a little more noise than rubber mounts.

Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting?

Yes. Changing ride height alters camber and toe, so have a full four-wheel alignment done once the springs have settled and the height is final.

Are TEIN coilovers road legal in the UK?

Super Racing is designed for competition use. Any suspension modification on a road car should be declared to your insurer, and the car must stay roadworthy for the MOT.

Is Super Racing suitable for road use?

Super Racing is designed for circuit and competition use. It can be set softer, but the pillow-ball mounts and firm spring rates make it noisy and harsh for everyday road driving. For a road car with occasional track days, look at Mono Sport or Mono Racing.

What warranty do TEIN coilovers come with?

TEIN UK covers its suspension for 12 months from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship. Keep your invoice, as it's needed for any claim.
