Description

TEIN Mono Racing Coilovers for Nissan Fairlady Z Z33 (2002-2008) – Track-Focused Mono-Tube, Camber Adjustable Mounts

TEIN Mono Racing is a motorsport-derived coilover kit for the Nissan Fairlady Z Z33, giving you adjustable ride height and damping to set the car up properly for track days and competition. TEIN specifies 18 kgf/mm front and 18 kgf/mm rear spring rates for this application (other rates can be chosen when ordering).

Mono Racing is TEIN's coilover for drivers who regularly do track days. It uses mono-tube dampers with TEIN's ADVANCE M.S.V. valve, full-length height adjustment and, on most strut cars, pillow-ball top mounts derived from TEIN's Super Racing kit with independent camber and caster adjustment. Springs are matched to the car, and TEIN lets you choose different spring rates when ordering.

The damper bodies get TEIN's two-layer powder coat, and the height-adjustment threads are protected by TEIN's low-friction ZTP coating, which resists rust and stone chips and helps stop the spring seats seizing. TEIN springs are cold-formed from SAE9254 spring steel and powder coated, and TEIN designs them to resist sagging over time.

Specifications

  • Damper type: Mono-tube, separate gas and oil chambers
  • Height adjustment: Full-length (case-length) adjustable
  • Damping adjustment: 16 levels (compression and rebound together)
  • Spring rate, front: 18 kgf/mm
  • Spring rate, rear: 18 kgf/mm
  • Ride height as supplied, front: approx. 10 mm lower than standard
  • Ride height as supplied, rear: approx. 15 mm lower than standard
  • TEIN recommended height range, front: 0 to 20 mm below standard
  • TEIN recommended height range, rear: 5 to 25 mm below standard
  • EDFC motor kit: EDK05-12120 (sold separately)
  • Top mounts: Pillow-ball top mounts with camber (and caster on many strut cars)
  • Part number: VSP24-K1NS3

Spring rates and ride heights are TEIN's application data. Heights are measured against the car's standard ride height and are a guide only: the result on your car depends on its condition, wheels and tyres, and load.

Key Features

  • Mono-tube dampers with separate gas and oil chambers for consistent damping on track
  • Full-length height adjustment for setting ride height and corner weights without changing stroke
  • 16-level damping adjuster with ADVANCE M.S.V. (0 = stiffest, 16 = softest)
  • Compatible with TEIN EDFC electronic damping controllers using motor kit EDK05-12120 (sold separately)
  • Pillow-ball top mounts with camber adjustment, plus caster adjustment on many strut cars
  • Upright Strong Tube construction on strut applications for extra rigidity
  • Spring rates can be chosen when ordering on many cars
  • Can be overhauled and revalved by TEIN

What's in the Kit?

  • 4 x Mono Racing height-adjustable dampers
  • 4 x TEIN coil springs (rates as listed below or as chosen when ordering)
  • Pillow-ball top mounts (vehicle-specific)
  • Ride-height adjusting spanner
  • Fitting instructions

Kit notes from TEIN:

  • Front spring rate chosen from 16, 18 or 20 kgf/mm and rear from 18 or 20 kgf/mm.
  • Special order only in the US and UK: springs must be chosen when ordering.

Fitment

  • Nissan Fairlady Z Z33 (Aug 2002 to Nov 2008), Base model, Version S, Version ST, Version T, 3.5L RWD

TEIN also lists this kit (VSP24-K1NS3) for: Infiniti G35 Coupe V35 (2003-2007); Infiniti G35 Saloon V35 (2003-2006); Nissan 350Z Z33 (2002-2008); Nissan 350Z Roadster Z33 (2003-2008); Nissan Fairlady Z Roadster HZ33 (2003-2008); Nissan Skyline PV35 (2002-2006); Nissan Skyline Coupe CPV35 (2003-2007).

Not suitable for: the Nissan Fairlady Z Z34 (2008-2022), which needs TEIN Mono Racing VSK04-K1NS3.

Installation

The kit replaces the complete original strut and damper assemblies. Set the ride height on the bench by screwing the damper body in or out of its lower bracket, then fine-tune on the car. TEIN pre-tightens the lower bracket lock rings only, so they must be fully tightened at fitting and checked regularly. Never shorten the body beyond TEIN's stated range. Tighten the top nut with a torque wrench while holding the piston rod on its flats; over-tightening can damage the adjuster. Leave suspension arm bolts loose until the car is back on its wheels, then torque them at normal ride height so the bushes aren't preloaded. TEIN advises lowering by no more than 30-40 mm to start with, keeping the front level with or 5-10 mm lower than the rear. Let the springs settle for a few days, recheck the height and lock rings, then have a full four-wheel alignment done. Fitting needs spring compressors (where strut assemblies are rebuilt), a torque wrench and a good understanding of the car's suspension. We recommend professional fitting.

Vehicle-specific notes from TEIN:

  • Rear: an EDFC controller is recommended, as the damper must be removed to adjust damping force.

Upgrade Further

Lowering changes the anti-roll bar geometry. TEIN's adjustable drop links let you correct it: Tein Rear Adjustable Drop Links Nissan 350Z Z33, Tein Rear Adjustable Drop Links Nissan 350Z Roadster Z33. Add a TEIN EDFC5 controller with motor kit EDK05-12120 to adjust damping from the driver's seat. Contact us for pricing.

Will this kit fit my Nissan Fairlady Z Z33?

This kit (TEIN part VSP24-K1NS3) is listed for the models in the Fitment section above. Check your chassis code, year and trim against that list, along with any notes under it. If you're unsure, send us your registration or VIN before ordering and we'll confirm.

How low will my Nissan Fairlady Z Z33 go?

As supplied, TEIN's data puts the car approx. 10 mm lower than standard at the front and approx. 15 mm lower than standard at the rear. TEIN recommends staying within 0 to 20 mm below standard at the front and 5 to 25 mm below standard at the rear. Wheels, tyres and the car's condition all affect the final height.

Can I adjust the damping?

Yes. The 16-level adjuster changes compression and rebound together: 0 is the stiffest setting and 16 the softest. Start from TEIN's recommended setting and change it a few clicks at a time. On this car some adjusters are hard to reach once fitted (see the vehicle-specific notes), so TEIN recommends its EDFC controller.

Does it work with TEIN EDFC?

Yes. You'll need TEIN's EDFC5 controller kit plus motor kit EDK05-12120 for this car, both sold separately. EDFC lets you change damping from inside the car.

Are top mounts included?

Yes. Pillow-ball top mounts are included. They give sharper steering feel and camber adjustment, but can transmit a little more noise than rubber mounts.

Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting?

Yes. Changing ride height alters camber and toe, so have a full four-wheel alignment done once the springs have settled and the height is final.

Are TEIN coilovers road legal in the UK?

Coilovers can be used on UK roads as long as the car stays roadworthy: keep a sensible ride height, enough clearance and correctly aimed headlights. Modifying your suspension should be declared to your insurer.

Is Mono Racing too stiff for the road?

Mono Racing is aimed at regular track use, so it's firmer than Flex Z or Mono Sport, but the 16-level adjuster gives a usable range. If the car is mainly used on the road, Mono Sport is usually the better choice.

What warranty do TEIN coilovers come with?

TEIN UK covers its suspension for 12 months from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship. Keep your invoice, as it's needed for any claim.
