Description

TEIN Flex AVS Coilovers for Lexus GS350 GRL10 GRL10L (2012-2015) – Keeps Your AVS Working, Full-Length Height Adjustment

TEIN Flex AVS lets you lower your Lexus GS350 GRL10 GRL10L and keep its AVS adaptive damping working, replacing the original dampers and springs with a height-adjustable TEIN kit made for this car. TEIN specifies 8 kgf/mm front and 12 kgf/mm rear spring rates for this application.

Flex AVS is made for Toyota and Lexus models fitted with AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension). The dampers work with the car's own AVS actuators, so the adaptive damping keeps working after you lower the car. TEIN's AVS needle gives the dampers a wider working range within the actuator's travel, and ride height is set by full-length adjustment so lowering doesn't eat into bump travel.

The damper bodies get TEIN's two-layer powder coat, and the height-adjustment threads are protected by TEIN's low-friction ZTP coating, which resists rust and stone chips and helps stop the spring seats seizing. TEIN springs are cold-formed from SAE9254 spring steel and powder coated, and TEIN designs them to resist sagging over time.

Specifications

  • Damper type: Twin-tube, gas and oil, with H.B.S.
  • Height adjustment: Full-length (case-length) adjustable
  • Damping adjustment: Controlled by the car's own AVS system (not manually adjustable)
  • Spring rate, front: 8 kgf/mm
  • Spring rate, rear: 12 kgf/mm
  • Ride height as supplied, front: approx. 15-35 mm lower than standard
  • Ride height as supplied, rear: approx. 25-35 mm lower than standard
  • TEIN recommended height range, front: 5 to 45 mm below standard
  • TEIN recommended height range, rear: 15 to 45 mm below standard
  • Top mounts: Vehicle-specific top mounts included (rubber or pillow-ball)
  • Part number: VSQ62-J1AS3

Spring rates and ride heights are TEIN's application data. Heights are measured against the car's standard ride height and are a guide only: the result on your car depends on its condition, wheels and tyres, and load.

Key Features

  • Works with the car's AVS adaptive damping, which stays fully functional after fitting
  • Full-length height adjustment: ride height changes without shortening the stroke
  • TEIN AVS needle for a wider damping range through the original actuators
  • Hydraulic Bump Stopper (H.B.S.) softens full-compression hits
  • TEIN SAE9254 springs matched to the car, powder coated and designed to resist sagging
  • Vehicle-specific top mounts, dust boots and bump rubbers included
  • ZTP-coated threads and TEIN-green powder coat to fight rust

What's in the Kit?

  • 4 x Flex AVS height-adjustable dampers
  • 4 x TEIN coil springs
  • Top mounts (vehicle-specific)
  • Dust boots and bump rubbers
  • Ride-height adjusting spanner
  • Fitting instructions

Fitment

  • Lexus GS350 GRL10 (Jan 2012 to Oct 2015), Version L, F Sport, I Package, 3.5L RWD
  • Lexus GS350 GRL10L (2013 to 2020), 3.5L RWD

TEIN also lists this kit (VSQ62-J1AS3) for: Lexus GS250 GRL11 (2012-2020); Lexus GS300h AWL10 (2013-2020); Lexus GS450h GWL10 ().

Please check before ordering:

  • Only for cars with AVS adaptive suspension (front and rear).
  • For F Sport models.

Not suitable for: the Lexus GS350 GRS191, GS350 GRS191L (2005-2012), which needs TEIN Flex AVS VSC76-J1SS3; and the same models without AVS, which need TEIN Flex Z.

Installation

The kit replaces the complete original strut and damper assemblies. Set the ride height on the bench by screwing the damper body in or out of its lower bracket, then fine-tune on the car. TEIN pre-tightens the lower bracket lock rings only, so they must be fully tightened at fitting and checked regularly. Never shorten the body beyond TEIN's stated range. The original AVS actuators are transferred to the new dampers, so take care with the connectors and wiring. Tighten the top nut with a torque wrench while holding the piston rod on its flats; over-tightening can damage the adjuster. Leave suspension arm bolts loose until the car is back on its wheels, then torque them at normal ride height so the bushes aren't preloaded. TEIN advises lowering by no more than 30-40 mm to start with, keeping the front level with or 5-10 mm lower than the rear. Let the springs settle for a few days, recheck the height and lock rings, then have a full four-wheel alignment done. Fitting needs spring compressors (where strut assemblies are rebuilt), a torque wrench and a good understanding of the car's suspension. We recommend professional fitting.

Vehicle-specific notes from TEIN:

  • Damping force cannot be adjusted manually.

Upgrade Further

Lowering changes the anti-roll bar geometry. TEIN's adjustable drop links let you correct it: Tein Front Adjustable Drop Links Lexus GS350 GRL10, Tein Rear Adjustable Drop Links Lexus GS350 GRL10.

Will this kit fit my Lexus GS350 GRL10 GRL10L?

This kit (TEIN part VSQ62-J1AS3) is listed for the models in the Fitment section above. Check your chassis code, year and trim against that list, along with any notes under it. If you're unsure, send us your registration or VIN before ordering and we'll confirm.

How low will my Lexus GS350 GRL10 GRL10L go?

As supplied, TEIN's data puts the car approx. 15-35 mm lower than standard at the front and approx. 25-35 mm lower than standard at the rear. TEIN recommends staying within 5 to 45 mm below standard at the front and 15 to 45 mm below standard at the rear. Wheels, tyres and the car's condition all affect the final height.

Can I adjust the damping?

Not by hand. Damping is controlled by the car's own AVS system through the original actuators, so your drive-mode settings still change the damping.

Are top mounts included?

Yes. Vehicle-specific top mounts are included in the kit.

Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting?

Yes. Changing ride height alters camber and toe, so have a full four-wheel alignment done once the springs have settled and the height is final.

Are TEIN coilovers road legal in the UK?

Coilovers can be used on UK roads as long as the car stays roadworthy: keep a sensible ride height, enough clearance and correctly aimed headlights. Modifying your suspension should be declared to your insurer.

Can I fit Flex AVS to a car without AVS?

No. Flex AVS relies on the car's AVS actuators to control damping, so it's only for cars fitted with AVS from the factory. For the same model without AVS, choose TEIN Flex Z instead.

What warranty do TEIN coilovers come with?

TEIN UK covers its suspension for 12 months from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship. Keep your invoice, as it's needed for any claim.
