Description

Bilstein B14 PSS Coilovers for Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 50mm Strut (2012-2021) – Height Adjustable for Road and Track

Bilstein B14 coilovers give the Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 50mm Strut a height-adjustable suspension that you can set exactly where you want it. Each corner uses a threaded body, so ride height can be lowered steplessly, typically between approx. 30mm and 70mm depending on the car, and corner weights can be fine-tuned.

The damping is fixed and tuned by Bilstein specifically for this car, so there are no settings to get wrong. It is firmer and more controlled than standard, making the B14 a good fit for a fast road car that also sees the odd track day.

Performance

  • Ride height: Adjustable, approx. 30-70mm lower depending on the car
  • Damping: Fixed, tuned by Bilstein for this car
  • Damper design: Monotube gas-pressure

Ride-height figures are Bilstein's application data for this part number, measured against the car's standard ride height. The actual change depends on the car's engine, equipment and the condition of the parts being replaced.

Key Features

  • Stepless ride-height adjustment on a threaded body
  • Typically approx. 30-70mm lower, depending on the car
  • Damping tuned by Bilstein for this specific car
  • Firm, controlled handling for fast road and occasional track use
  • Springs and dampers developed together as a complete kit
  • Supplied with a parts certificate

What's in the Kit?

  • 2 x front Bilstein B14 height-adjustable coilover units
  • 2 x rear Bilstein dampers with springs (height-adjustable, layout follows the car's original rear suspension)

Please note: the photo shows a typical Bilstein B14 kit. The parts for your car are specific to it and will differ in appearance. Top mounts and fitting hardware are not included unless listed above.

Fitment

  • Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 50mm Strut (2012-2021)

Not suitable for: other versions of this car, which have their own Bilstein B14 PSS part numbers: Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 50mm Strut Rigid Axle 12-21, Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 55mm Strut Multilink Axle 12-21, Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 55mm Strut Rigid Axle 12-21; cars with factory electronic damping or self-levelling suspension unless stated above; other generations, body styles or drivetrains not listed above.

Installation

The factory dampers and springs are removed (spring compressors are needed to strip the original front struts) and the Bilstein units fitted in their place. Set the ride height equally side to side before fitting, tighten the lock rings, and never go below the minimum thread engagement given in Bilstein's instructions. Check that the wheels and tyres clear the arches and suspension at full lock and full compression. Let the springs settle, re-check the ride height, then have a four-wheel alignment carried out. We recommend professional fitting.

Upgrade Further

Bilstein also makes other suspension options for this car: Bilstein B16 for the Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 50mm Strut Multilink Axle 12-21, Bilstein B16 DampTronic for the Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 55mm Strut Multilink Axle 12-21.

Will this fit every Volkswagen Golf 5G1?

No. Bilstein makes separate kits for different versions of this car, split by body style, drivetrain, engine or axle load. This one is for the Volkswagen Golf 7 5G1 50mm Strut (2012-2021). Check the Fitment section and the Not suitable for line, and contact us with your registration if you're unsure.

How low can I go?

Adjustable, approx. 30-70mm lower depending on the car. Always keep the minimum thread engagement shown in Bilstein's instructions and check that the tyres clear the arches at full lock and full compression.

Can I fit this to a car with electronic or adaptive dampers?

This kit uses conventional dampers. If your car has factory electronic damping, check the Fitment notes above, as Bilstein makes separate DampTronic and EVO SE kits for many of these cars.

Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting?

Yes. Changing the ride height changes the suspension geometry, so a four-wheel alignment is needed after fitting. Let the springs settle for a few hundred miles first and re-check the ride height.

Is it road legal in the UK?

Yes, this kit is designed for road use. As with any suspension modification, you should tell your insurer once it has been fitted.

What type of dampers does it use?

Monotube gas-pressure, according to Bilstein's data for this part number. Gas-pressure dampers resist fading when they get hot during hard driving.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Bilstein suspension is covered against defects in materials and workmanship. Contact us with your order number if you have any problem.

Do I need new top mounts?

They are not included. If your existing top mounts, bearings or bump stops are worn, replace them while the suspension is apart, as worn mounts can cause knocks and affect the alignment.
